Astronautics Foundation Department was founded in September 2010, consisting of School of Reliability and Systems Engineering, School of Astronautics, School of Instrumentation Science & Opto-electronics Engineering. Its establishment represents a renewed project-integrating institution mode and also obviates the boundaries among different schools, promoting the project-integrating and institution-innovation, which is significant for constructing project groups of mutually bracing, mutually promoting. And it also illustrates on achieving admission by major class, fostering compound talented individuals of sounded foundation, comprehensive major, and compatible with the modern development of science and technology. The department includes 3 schools, 2 national key laboratories, 4 provincial and ministerial level laboratories. Professor Liang Guozhu takes the office of the director of the department, while Professor Su Hao takes the office of the deputy of the department.
At present, under the Astronautics Foundation Department, there are 3 first-level national key disciplines ( Aeronautical and Astronavigation Science and Technology, Control Science and Engineering, and Instrument Science and Technology), which further include 6 second-level disciplines (Flight Vehicle Design, Aviation and Aerospace Promote Theory and Engineering, Navigation Guidance and Control, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System, Precision Instrument and Machinery, and Measuring and Testing Technologies and Instruments), 4 second-level national key disciplines (System Engineering, Space Physics, Precision Instrument and Machinery, and Measuring and Testing Technologies and Instruments), 1 Beijing first-level municipal key discipline (Optical Engineering), 1 Beijing second-level municipal key discipline (Optical Engineering), 6 centers for post-doctoral studies (System Engineering, Flight Vehicle Design, Aviation and Aerospace Promote Theory and Engineering, Navigation Guidance and Control, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent System, Instrument Science and Technology), and 8 doctoral specialties of second-level disciplines, such as System Engineering, Flight Vehicle Design, Aviation and Aerospace Promote Theory and Engineering, Navigation Guidance and Control, Pattern Recognition and Intelligence System, Precision Instrument and Machinery, and Measuring and Testing Technologies and Instruments and Optical Engineering.
Astronautics Foundation Department has a large number of high-level teachers, including 75 PHD supervisors,70 professors,131 associate professors(4 of which are academicians of CAS,7 of which are Yangtze River scholar professors,4 of which are the winners of National Outstanding Youth Science Foundation and the Overseas Young Scholars Research Fund,31 of which are post doctors) .There are 887 undergraduates altogether in two grades at the moment,436 of 2010 and 451 of 2011.
Each department of Astronautics Foundation Department has strong ability in scientific research, and is equipped with advanced facilities and also plays an important role in many national projects like “plan 973”,”plan 863”and so on. Meanwhile, we also corporate with enterprises in solving technical tough issues as well as developing high-tech ,which turn out to be successful and brings us about prosperous researching results, practical application achievements and makes a satisfying social benefits.
